What Worship Is
Jesus told his followers in John 14:15, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." Obedience, then, isn't a chore that we perform to earn God's favor. It's the natural fruit of love that is aimed at someone truly worthy of it. If we love Him, keeping His word becomes an honest response, not a burden.
That's why we believe worship is more than just singing. Romans 12:1 teaches the believer that they are "to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." A sacrifice on an altar is consumed in a moment. A living sacrifice, by contrast, has to keep choosing to stay on the altar, day after day.
This is also why worship was never meant to be a solitary pursuit. Keeping Christ's commandments and offering our lives as a living sacrifice is hard, harder than any of us can sustain alone. We were built for a community that reminds us of the truth when we forget it, that celebrates with us in the good seasons, and that carries us through the hard ones.
That is why FBCLA is serious about teaching you what the Word of God says and providing you with a community in which you find encouragement and help to live out the life Christ requires of His followers.
